Jackcksonville Pork could save teacher jobs for kids

The link below shows you an aerial view of the Jacksonville Florida Equestrian Center. City tax dollars maintain it, and contributed to it's construction. It also has a large area maintained for horse back riding in the near by Forrest.

When the dirt road was paved to the riding area, property owners willing gave land so that no telephone polls would have to be moved. However there is a written city rule that states that land will be taken from the middle of the road, and extended equally on each side. Sounds good. but here are the facts:

• This was a dirt road (dirt roads move). Cars originally drove on one side of the telephone poles (where the deed designated). But when it flooded cars would drive on the other side where the higher ground was making the poles appear as though they were in the middle of the road.
• The City of Jacksonville insisted on using large sums of taxpayer money to move the electric poles, wires and all)
• Neighbors argued that it would make more sense to move the road...common sense saving the taxpayers needed money.
• City officials explained that is not how business is done with the City...you the tax payer shelled out millions. If it is in writing they must follow it no matter how stupid.

That would not be a serious problem if needed school teachers were not facing loss of jobs due to a budget shortage. On the Federal and City books are many such stupid laws, and no one is allowed to out think what is in writing.

Well, at least he was being upfront about the costs, unlike former Vice President Al Gore, who refused to answer questions about the total costs of implementing a cap and trade program. But Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) rightly pointed out recently, "cap and trade is a tax, and it's a great big one." Estimates are that this national energy tax would cost the average American family $3900 per year! TAKE ACTION NOW to send a letter to your Representative and Senators, asking them to vote NO on any cap and trade scheme that comes before them in Congress. We have heard encouraging statements from both Democrats and Republicans on this issue who are concerned about the billions of dollars in new taxes and job losses that will result from a cap and trade scheme.

We need to focus on encouraging those Members of Congress that are opposed to cap and trade to stand their ground. Together, we can work to defeat this terrible idea that will harm our economy at a time of real vulnerability.

We need to be very careful about public places, do not travel to Mexico,
wash our hands frequently, and avoid strangers...and get a flu shot as
soon as they become available. SANITATION is absolutely EVERYTHING.

I tell you these things because I care about your welfare. Please allow me to relate a personal experience. In March 2005, I pumped my gasat the corner of Rainbow and Tropicana. I did not wash my hands afterward (there are no hand-wash stations at gas stations). My face and eyes were itchingso, after I pumped my gas, I rubbed my face and eyes with my hands. Two days later, alone, and scared, I spiked a 103 fever and was flat on my back for a week...this disease seemed like something that "had gotten loose from the army," like a weaponized flu.

Twice in my life, 1969 (Hong Kong Flu), and 1992, the flu became pneumonia, and I almost died. I have a great respect for this disease called the flu. Rumors that the current Swine Flu are weaponized flu are not proven. Sanitation is everything. Please beware of public door latches, knobs, and gas pump handles. ...and please don't let the pigs in your backyard get loose and wander the neighborhood! Letter to our President

Roma writes: I must disagree in part with this letter.

1. I personally think Obama and Michelle have done an excellent job with foreign affairs. I have not seen anyone this good since President and Jaquelin Kennedy. Could Obama have made a few blunders in this area...sure. But he is a heck of allot better than Bush, who challenged and offended just about everyone. The only person that does not make a mistake is the guy who does nothing.

He also handled the recent pirate situation exceptionally well, demonstrating he walks softly but carries a big stick. One might recall how long it took Bush to respond to events like Katrina.

2. On the economic issues is where I strongly disagree with Obama. I also do not like his broken promises about no Lobbyists in his administration, "buy American", foreign trade and outsourcing. The increased debt to China is also very troubling

We knew his and McCain's misguided stance on amnesty, and on the bail Out before the election, and that is exactly why I voted independent this year for the time. I am glad I did.

3. . My research tells me that our Founding Fathers where Christian, and had come from a very intolerant Christian society. So they tried not to impose their set of Christian beliefs on others.

However, they did clearly state a belief in God in many places....even the dollar bill.

Before World War II many Americans were not very tolerant of the Jewish, Claiming they had killed Jesus. Hitler showed us what that sort of intolerance is capable of becoming. So we opened our hearts to the Jewish community, and began calling ourselves Judeo- Christian. If we do not learn from our past , we are doomed to repeat them.

My reasons for passing this along is not to offend any of you - I know some of you are Democrats and supported Obama during the election - but in fact, to present another illustration of the need to DEFEND this country against the actions that this president has taken. Surely, none of us can accept that fact, without criticism, that our grandchildren are very likely to spend their entire lives in debt - or something worse.

There was another man that wooed and wowed his people, to the point that it cost millions of them their lives. Ladies and gentlemen, unless something happens, we are on that same road - and quite frankly, it is scary. I'm old enough that I don't worry about myself, but I sure have some frightening thoughts about my son, my grandchildren, their children and all of the next couple of generations to come.

True Story

I was just talking with HP technical support in the Philippines. We were talking about how globalization, specifically NAFTA, had hurt Mexico.

I told him how the building of factories there displaced many Mexican farmers, and how they hired farmers and other workers. Things were good for a time, but when they found cheaper labor in China they moved business out of Mexico to China leaving destroyed farm land, and jobless workers.

He said the same thing happened in the Philippines when they found cheaper labor in India. I told him how the same thing has happened in the U.S.
